Why this recipe works
- Easy and make-ahead - These sandwiches are easy to assemble. Simply layer the tasty ingredients on the rolls. Prep ahead of time, then bake when ready to eat.
- Great use for leftover ham - These warm sliders are a delicious twist on a traditional cold ham and cheese sandwich. The whole family will love the flavors.
- Made with readily available ingredients - No fussy or hard-to-find ingredients.
- Onion garlic butter - Brushing seasoned melted butter over the top of the buns adds another wonderful layer of flavor.
- Serve with chips and easy creamy coleslaw for a casual dinner or with this chips and dips board for a crowd.
Ingredients
- Ham - These sandwiches are ideal for using up leftover ham. Deli ham works equally well too!
- Swiss cheese - Thin deli-sliced cheese is perfect because it melts well.
- Mustard - I prefer tangy deli-style mustard. Use your favorite variety - Dijon, classic yellow, or honey mustard.
- Buns - Any variety of slider buns can be used such as classic, potato, or Hawaiian rolls.

These sliders can simply be served with chips for an easy meal or with other snacks as part of a game day spread. For heartier appetites, serve with a hearty side dish like cheesy hash brown casserole. Some of my favorite sides include:
Recipe FAQs
Absolutely! These sliders work great as a make-ahead dish. Assemble the sliders, but don't brush them with butter. Cover and refrigerate. When ready to eat, brush with the seasoned butter, cover, and bake.
While Swiss and ham is a very popular combination, cheddar is also a wonderful choice. Monterey Jack, Gruyere, and Brie are all tasty options too.
I prefer to reheat the sliders in the microwave. Baking them a second time in the oven tends to dry out the rolls. To reheat, wrap one or two sliders in a damp paper towel and microwave until warm, approx. 40-55 seconds (the time will vary depending on the wattage of your microwave).
