Why This Recipe Works
- Full of cheeseburger flavors the whole family will love.
- These tacos are baked, which simplifies last-minute dinner prep.
- The filling can be made ahead of time, so pulling dinner together just takes minutes.
- Customize with your favorite burger toppings - add chopped tomatoes, red onion, and bacon if desired.
Ingredient Notes
- Ground turkey or chicken keeps these tacos light, but ground beef can also be used for a more traditional burger vibe.
- Ketchup and mustard bring classic cheeseburger flavors to the taco filling.
- Taco shells—I prefer using flat-bottom stand-and-stuff taco shells. They are easy to fill and hold more filling. I love Bold Nacho taco shells for added cheese flavor.
- Cheddar cheese—Buy a block of cheddar and shred it yourself for the freshest flavor and best melting quality.
- Burger sauce—This blend of mayo, french dressing, and pickle juice gives these tacos a Big Mac identity. Duke's mayo and Ken's Country French dressing are my go-to's.
Step-by-step instructions

Step 1: Cook ground turkey and onions until cooked through, crumbling the meat as it cooks. If using ground beef, drain the excess fat.
Step 2: Stir in the ketchup and mustard.
Step 3: Pre-bake the taco shells for the crispiest texture. Heat per the package directions - approx 5-6 minutes at 325 degrees.
Step 4: Fill each taco shell with some cheese, taco filling, and more cheese.
Step 5: Bake at 400 degrees until the cheese is melted, approx. 3-5 minutes.
Step 6: Top with lettuce and pickles, and drizzle with burger sauce.
Expert Tips
- Pre-bake taco shells for an extra crispy texture.
- If using ground beef, be sure to drain excess fat so the tacos aren't greasy.
- Layer some cheese in the taco shells before adding the meat to prevent the shells from turning soggy on the bottom.
- Use a meat chopper to make it easy to crumble the meat as it cooks.
Serving, Storing, and Reheating
- Serve with a side of Coconut Lime rice or Creamy Coleslaw.
- Use taco holders for ease of serving.
- If necessary, store leftover tacos without garnishes in the refrigerator for no more than two days.
- To reheat, heat in a baking dish in a 325-degree oven until warm and crisp. Top with fresh garnishes.
