Why you will love this recipe
- Ease - Pre-shredded cabbage keeps the prep to a minimum, so this slaw comes together in just minutes.
- Flavor - The three-ingredient dressing is the perfect blend of sweet and tangy.
- Versatility - Colesaw goes with almost everything - grilled or roasted meats, sandwiches, salad plates, and more.
Ingredient notes
- Pre-shredded coleslaw mix - I love the convenience of this store-bought mix. You can always shred the green cabbage and carrots yourself if you prefer.
- Shredded red cabbage - I buy the pre-shredded package for convenience. You only need 2 cups for this recipe (half of the package), so save the extra for salads or tacos.
- Red onion - Thinly sliced red onion adds flavor and color. Feel free to add more or less based on personal preference.
- Miracle Whip or mayonnaise - I've made this slaw with both Miracle Whip and mayo, and it's delicious both ways. Use your favorite variety or what you have on hand. Duke's and Hellman's are my favorite mayonnaise brands.
- Sugar adds a touch of sweetness. You can use more or less depending on personal preference.
- Apple cider vinegar provides an acidic tang to the dressing. White wine vinegar can also be used.
How to make coleslaw
See the recipe card for complete instructions and ingredient amounts.
Toss the coleslaw mix, red cabbage, and red onions together in a large mixing bowl. Stir the mayo, vinegar, and sugar together until smooth. Pour the dressing over the slaw mix and toss to combine.
The coleslaw can be served immediately, but I prefer to refrigerate it for two hours to allow the flavors to meld.
Store in an air-tight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

Your recipe for coleslaw is so similar to the way my mother made her fabulous coleslaw! I did find it to my liking to add a bit more apple cider vinegar. Very happy to find your recipe. Thank you.
