These days it seems like there are kitchen gadgets for just about every task imaginable. But, the tools I find myself reaching for time and time again are more traditional than trendy. Read on for a few of my favorites.
Instant-read thermometer: check the doneness of everything from salmon to steak, turkey burgers to whole turkeys, whether grilling outside or cooking indoors. The read-out is fast and accurate. This juicy steak was a perfect medium.
Citrus squeezer: an easy way to extract every bit of citrusy goodness from lemons or limes, and it will catch any seeds so they don’t end up in your recipe.
Microplane grater: Prior to juicing, use the microplane to grate the zest of lemons and limes. The zest has as much flavor, if not more than, the juice.
Parmesan cheese can be grated to sprinkle over a plate of pasta or a bowl of tomato soup.
Chocolate and nutmeg can be grated to garnish a fresh cup of coffee topped with whipped cream. Mmm… I love the aroma of freshly grated nutmeg.
Portion scoops: These come in a variety of sizes and can be used for portioning cookie dough or meatballs, scooping cupcake or muffin batter into muffin tins, or serving up ice cream.
Sheet pans(half sheet or quarter sheet): I use these pans to bake cookies and sheet cakes, roast vegetables and chicken breasts, bake pizza or nachos.
These tools are some of the go-to things that I use on a regular, almost daily, basis. What are some of your favorite must-have tools?
